Rick Jansen is a singer/songwriter who has music in his bones. He found music when he was 16 and took to it like a dehydrated fish to water. Not lacking for ambition, Rick auditioned for The Voice South Africa only two years into his career in 2016. Under the tutelage of Karen Zoid and Bobbie van Jaarsveld, amidst thousands of aspiring Madonnas and Calum Scotts, he made it to the top 25 vocalists in the country.
Since then, he has grown remarkably and experimented at local live music hubs such as the Fijnwyn Wine & Food Festival, The Fourways Farmers Market, Social on Main, Railways Café and the Stables Village Market to refine his sound. He names his influences as James Bay, The Script, Maroon 5, Bob Marley and Magic Giant. Already a seasoned guitar player, he added the ukulele, percussion and loops to his performance. With a voice that can transition from soul to pop to folk and back again Rick’s songs are accented with elements of pop, folk, jazz, rock and R&B.
His unique style caught the ears of producers and music makers all over Pretoria. His first release came in the form of Fate, an electronic pop song from the mind of local producer, Raffsta, that took him far from his folky, acoustic comfort zone. After Fate, Rick recorded another song with renowned producer and DJ, the Kiffness and rising star, Bianca Blanc.
While working on new releases and performing at ever more festivals and shows, Rick is studying Electronic Engineering and indulging in his passion for languages so that he can serenade his fans in French, English and Afrikaans. Rick is on the verge of releasing his much anticipated EP as his fanbase and demand grow.
Fate is available for download and streaming on all major platforms.
